The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is the private sector arm of the World Bank Group. IFC promotes sustainable private sector investment in developing countries as a way to reduce poverty and improve people’s lives. IFC offers investment products and advisory services to private sector and government clients. IFC in Indonesia combines investment and advisory services to expand access to finance, improve access to infrastructure, strengthen commodity based value chains, and improve the business climate, while addressing climate change across all programs.

IFC is pursuing a dynamic growth strategy with a particular focus on expanding its real sector investments in East Asia & Pacific. To strengthen its business development capabilities in Indonesia, the Corporation is seeking to recruit: Investment Officer/Senior Investment Officer – Real Sector

As part of the regional real sector team, as well as the Indonesia country team, the Investment Officer/Senior Investment Officer will provide business development and transaction support in East Asia & Pacific to maximize IFC’s developmental impact in project financing and to contribute to the overall private sector development in Indonesia. Working closely with sector colleagues in Hong Kong and Washington, D.C., as well as with the regional team, he/she will establish strong relationships with the business community and government; gather and disseminate market intelligence; identify business opportunities and appraise investment proposals; evaluate and analyze the attractiveness of potential investments; participate in the structuring and negotiation of deals; supervise portfolio projects and contribute to country and regional strategy formulation.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Identify, evaluate, and process investments in the real sector, primarily general manufacturing and services, health and education;
  • Manage portfolio companies until exit; propose portfolio restructurings, capital increases, equity sales, etc;
  • Develop new business in the real sector and provide innovative and flexible financial structures for complex transactions;
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, global and regional private businesses and multilateral partners, as well as with government officials to further develop specific investment opportunities and to develop projects with high developmental impact;
  • Set standards for thoroughness in quality control and make recommendations to strengthen transactions;
  • Lead and manage project teams; mentor and develop junior staff;
  • Contribute to sector and regional strategies; support promotional and policy advisory activities;
  • Coordinate closely with environmental and advisory colleagues to add value to our clients’ businesses; and
  • Propose pragmatic solutions to specific industry challenges to achieve sustainable development impact.

Selection Criteria:

  • MBA or equivalent degree with specialization in finance;
  • Minimum 8-12 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the East Asia & Pacific region and internationally in (i) corporate banking or project finance, (ii) portfolio management or equity analysis experience, and (iii) preferably in analyzing companies in the real sector. Knowledge of overall industry sector trends is a plus;
  • Strong analytical and credit assessment skills, and sound knowledge of loan/investment documentation, accounting and financial statement analysis;
  • Ability to multi-task, deal with conflicting priorities and deliver high quality work on schedule;
  • Sound business judgment and strong problem solving, negotiation and commercial skills;
  • Ability to interact directly and independently with the senior management of potential clients, of financial and technical partners, as well as with the senior government officials;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds;
  • Genuine commitment to sustainable development;
  • Strong teamwork and excellent English oral and written, communication and presentation skills; and
  • Willingness to travel extensively.
